There is a particular beauty that belongs only to summer storms. The sky grows heavy, the wind gathers strength, and the poppies begin to dance through the long grasses before the first drops of rain arrive.

Before the Rain captures that fleeting moment of anticipation. The vibrant scarlet poppies glow against the brooding grey sky, reminding us that nature is often at its most beautiful just before everything changes. Layers of expressive brushwork and textured mixed media bring movement to the grasses, creating the feeling of standing amongst them as they bend in the breeze.

For me, poppies are more than beautiful flowers. They symbolise resilience, fragility and hope. They thrive in unexpected places, flourishing despite difficult conditions, a quiet reminder that beauty and strength often grow together.

Created as Day 7 of my 100 Days, 100 Paintings, 100 Euros challenge, this original painting celebrates the wild landscapes that continue to inspire my work and my belief that reconnecting with nature helps us reconnect with ourselves.
